10 photographers who prove that wedding photography can be different

Weddings, baptisms and communions. BBC photographers in the jargon of the sector, or social photography in an attempt to dignify a specialty that until recently was seen as the ugly duckling. But times have changed, and wedding photographer  no longer has to hide its name.

Among other things because, if we talk about professionals of a certain level, move figures that many other photographers would like. But, above all, because aesthetically there is little left of those albums full of clichés and dandruff. His place has been occupied by reports closer to documentary and fashion photography than to the works that were styled years ago.

Actually it is a change that has been shaping up for a long time, but dating as BodaF – which is celebrated these days in the framework of PhotoForum Barcelona – serve to verify the good health of this specialty.

Therefore, with the help of the organizers of this international meeting, we have compiled a dozen professionals – many of them speakers at this event – whose work shows that another wedding photography was possible.

Dan O’Day

With a taste for symmetry and games of light and kind shadows with tones that approach the painting, this Australian photographer who considers himself a story teller , is a clear example that in the reporting of a wedding can coexist various feelings and genres (from the documentary to the posed) without the group losing an iota of his stamp as an author.

Víctor Lax

Undoubtedly, one of the names that most sound lately in the world of wedding photography. Leaving aside the long list of awards that accumulates throughout his career ( Fearless phototographer of the year 2016 , to name the most recent), he himself is between the artistic and documentary photography. “I do not think that success is based only on capturing a few beautiful photos but on photographing those images that collect memories,” he explains.

Pedro Etura

Winner of the award as best photographer UnionWep 2015, Pedro Etura has managed to project that vertigo of journalism in social photography. Creator “A Photo Agency” to give visibility to the author’s photography, he says dedicate himself to wedding photography because of the adrenaline and because he likes to photograph life.

Samm Blake

Gloria and Daniel hide behind this name, photographers who vindicate the delicate and elegant reports that never leave indifferent. Specialized in making the most unsuspected places an attractive scenario as valid as those more predictable, for a long time they have managed to make a name among the best wedding photographers in the country.
